Opportunities: A Parable
Yesterday, I was driving to an appointment when I passed a house with several free tomato cages in their yard. I am growing a lot of tomatoes this year and thought, " I should stop, but I might be late for my appointment. That's ok, I can buy some from Lowe's."
(I know, how smart is that? Free or buy, duh.)
After my appointment, I passed them again. I really wanted to get them, but I "needed" to get back to the office, so "I will get them later." But things were busy until after 10PM and I forgot.
This morning, I remembered them and jumped in the car, just in case they were still there.
You know where this is going. They were gone. Some smarter person stopped and grabbed the opportunity as they were driving by. I am sure they had some place to be, but they saw an opportunity and jumped in it.
You can create your own opportunities. But, the truth is that there are thousands of them right in front of us, but we don't see them... or don't open our eyes to see them... or are "too busy" to stop.
I know. These were "just tomato cages." Now I have to spend money, if I can find them, to buy what I could have had for free, if I hadn't been "too busy" to grab the opportunity.
We have all missed opportunities. Some we know about, others we don't... because we were "too busy" or "didn't think we were good enough" or a thousand other excuses.
Don't look back to see what you missed. Look forward and grab the next one.
The Moral: Slow down to JUMP FAST. When you see an opportunity you want, grab it... now.
