It's Not About You

My husband hates when I say, "it's not about you", and ironically, this post is not about him either.  

As a strategic marketer, it never ceases to amaze me when clients say, "I don't want to market myself online (or text, apps, TV, radio, etc) because I don't look at those ads."  It takes everything I have to not say, "it's not about you".

As a client (or marketer), you need to step away from your behavior patterns, and focus on what your target audience does.  Just because you don't, doesn't mean your customers, clients, and prospects don't.

Check out a few of these 2016 U.S. statistics:
  • 93% of population listens to AM/FM radio over the airwaves
  • Watch an average of 282 minutes of TV per day
  • 79% of the population shops online
  • Apps account for 89% of media time
  • On mobile alone, YouTube reaches more 18-49 year-olds than any broadcast or CABLE TV network
Do those statistics sound like your behaviors?  Whether they do or not, that is a snapshot of today's consumers...YOUR consumers.

There is a tremendous amount of research to help you and your marketing partner define where your specific customers are getting their information.  Trust the research.  Trust your marketing partner.
